Home Support Worker Personal Support Canada

It is time to hurry! The government has announced that The Home Child Care Provider Pilot and the Home Support Worker Pilot programs will end in June 2024.

The Home Child Care Pilot and Home Support Pilot are a 5-year pilot programs that let qualified caregivers and their family members come to Canada with the goal of becoming permanent residents. Pilot means that it is temporary. They started in 2019 and will end in June 2024. We have highlighted the program’s information.

NOCs

  • Home Child Care Provider – NOC 44100

  • Home Support Worker – 44101

Categories

  • Gaining experience category = less than 1 year experience

  • Direct to permanent residence category = 1 year or more experience

The Application Cap

  • Gaining experience category: 1650 applications

  • 1500 online applications: Closed Jan 1, 2023

  • 150 alternate format applications: Closed Feb 1, 2023

  • Direct to permanent residence category: 1,100 applications

  • 1,100 online applications: Closed April 19, 2023

  • 100 alternate format applications

It is recommened to apply by January 1st or as soon as the program opens.

Gaining Experience Category

If you have less than 12 months of work experience:

  • Submit an application for work permit AND application for Permanent Residency (PR);

  • Get an occupation-restricted work permit – work for any employer;

  • Work for 12 months;

  • Send proof of 12 months of work experience to IRCC;

  • IRCC processes your PR application.

Eligibility – Who can apply?

  • Have a genuine and valid job offer – NO LMIA REQUIRED;

  • Are able to do the job;

  • Meet the language level;

  • Meet the education requirement;

  • Are admissible to Canada;

  • Not in Quebec;

  • Show that you’ll be able to support yourself.

What is a genuine and valid job offer?

  • Use the Offer or Employment IMM 5983;

  • Full-time min. of 30 hours or paid work per week;

  • From a Canadian employer;

  • Not in Quebec;

  • Employer that is NOT a business, an embassy, a high commission, or a consulate;

  • Genuine – there is a real need to hire you;

  • Match eligible NOC code.

Dos & Dont’s

Home Child Care

  • Must be from your home or the employer’s private home;

  • Cannot be a daycare or school;

  • You don’t have to live with your employer, but you can.

Home Support Worker

  • Must care for someone in your employer’s private home;

  • Cannot be a nursing home;

  • You don’t have to live with the employer but you can.

Language Test

English or French

Level 5 in English or French for all 4 language skills:

  • Writing

  • Reading

  • Listening 

  • Speaking

Level 4 is the lowest possible score on a language test.

 Education

  • Canadian Equivalent – Completed at least 1 year Post-Secondary Education;

  • Assessed by an organization like Word Education Services.

How to apply

  • Online Outside of Canada;

OR

  • Inside Canada ONLY IF you have a valid work permit or study permit.

Direct to Permanent Residence Category

12 months or more Work Experience

  • 12 months of full-time work experience in Canada in the 3 years before you apply;

  • It does not need to be 1 month in a row;

  • Full-time means a minimum of 30 paid hours per week;

  • It must be in 1 of the NOC jobs. It cannot be a mix of both Child Care & Home Care;

  • Any work experience as a full-time student doesn’t count.
