The Power of the Passport: Canada Maintains its Top Position in the 2024 Global Rankings

Despite not being as strong as the United States passport, the Canadian passport is still considered one of the most powerful in the world in 2024.

Passport Index, a website that evaluates passports around the world, released its annual ranking for 2024. Canada came in seventh place, alongside countries such as Malta, Lithuania, Slovenia, Estonia and Australia.

They analyzed the passports of 193 UN countries and their territories, such as Taiwan, Macau, Hong Kong, the Palestinian Territory and the Vatican, to see how easy it is to travel to other countries with these passports. This includes things like being able to enter a country without needing a visa or getting a visa when you get there.

According to the Index, those with a Canadian passport can travel visa-free to 124 countries, get a visa on arrival for 49 countries, and need an ETA to travel to other countries.
